What to do
More on How To Do Newport, Rhode Island in a Weekend: At first blush it is all about touring the amazing mansions. However, this town offers great shops, restaurants, and bars – many are right on the water. I decided to join the Newport Preservation Society which provides unlimited access to most of the popular mansions.

Newport Rhode Island Harbor Cruise
We also took a harbor cruise with a great guide. Newport Harbor is simply spectacular, and you’ll see some of the largest yachts in the world; you can charter some of these yachts for between $300k – $500k per week – plus expenses of course.. Newport is home to multiple America’s cup boats and hosts multiple events. You can also enjoy a harbor tour on a sailboat or even a sunset cruise.

Newport Rhode Island Rosecliff Stairs
Do you like the movie, True Lies? Part of the movie was shot on the above staircase in the mansion known as Rosecliff.
Where to Eat
We wandered around/in/out of multiple places our first night in Newport trying to find a place with a less than hour wait and a menu that worked for all of us. We found the Red Parrot and waited in the bar for a good while. Totally worth it as the food, ambiance, and our waiter were great! There is a large amount of unique restaurants all over town. The Breakers has its own cafe right on the grounds of the mansion.
